Entry of 11 ‘unruly’ SIC-PTI MPAs banned in Punjab Assembly

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Taking action against the SIC-PTI members of the Punjab Assembly (PA) for using abusive language and resorting to hooliganism during the PA session, Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan on Saturday banned the entry of 11 MPAs of the opposition in the House.

The MPAs, whose entry was banned, were Zulfiqar Ali, Rana Shahbaz Ahmad, Muhammad Atif, Tayyab Rashid, Imtiaz Mehmood, Hafiz Farhat Abbas, Chaudhry Muhammad Ijaz Shafi, Rana Aurangzeb, Shoaib Ameer, Usama Asghar Ali Gujjar and Asad Abbas.

The speaker’s order led to a sit-in by the opposition MPAs at the assembly’s gate.

The protesters raised slogans against the Punjab government.

Seeing the gravity of the situation, police personnel took positions at the protest site.

Police vans were also parked nearby so that the MPAs could be taken to a police station in case of arrest.

Reacting to the development, Opposition Leader in the Provincial Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan Bachar said the SIC-PTI MPAs were not being allowed to protest which was against democratic norms.

Earlier on Saturday, the speaker said he had formed an ‘Ethics Committee’ to see to it that no MPA used indecent language or resorted to hooliganism during the assembly’s session.

He made it clear that he would not tolerate any indiscipline in the House.

On Friday, the speaker had suspended the membership of 11 MPAs for 15 days under the rule 210.

The opposition lawmakers faced the music for creating a mess during the proceedings and using non-parliamentary words against the Punjab chief minister.

According to a notification, the suspended members won’t be able to attend the session for two weeks.
