BRUSSELS (TASS): The EU recognizes that the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) won the war, therefore it considers it necessary to start a dialogue with the new Afghan authorities in order to prevent humanitarian and migration crises.
This was stated on Tuesday by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell following an emergency video conference of EU foreign ministers on Afghanistan. At the same time, he stressed that we are not talking about the recognition of the new authorities.
The Taliban won the war, so we need to talk to the new authorities in Kabul, whoever they are, to prevent migration and humanitarian crises, he said. – This is about dialogue, not about the recognition of the Taliban’s power.
The priority task of the European Union in Afghanistan now is the evacuation of its personnel and Afghan citizens who worked with EU countries, Borrell said.
