EU delivers 100 tonnes of medical aid to Afghanistan

KABUL (TOLONews): The European Union delivered close to 100 tonnes of life-saving medical supplies and equipment to Afghanistan through the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flight on Wednesday.
The medical supplies and equipment are delivered to help the most vulnerable segments of the people in Afghanistan, as the country already feels a shortage of medical supplies, doctors, healthcare employees, and decent healthcare services.
“The European Union continues to support the people of Afghanistan. Today’s Humanitarian Air Bridge flight delivers additional vital medicines and medical items that will benefit the Afghan people. The EU Humanitarian Air Bridge helps the United Nations and humanitarian NGOs to keep operating in the country and represents a lifeline to those in need of medical treatment”, Raffaella Iodice, EU Chargée d’Affaires, said.
Since the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021, this is the 27th cargo flight Afghanistan receives from the EU. Indeed, the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flights enable donor countries and partners to send life-saving supplies to the people of Afghanistan rather efficiently.
The EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flight operations are conducted under the European Humanitarian Response Capacity (EHRC). These flights help to fill critical gaps in the EU’s humanitarian and emergency response in different parts of the world.
Meanwhile, the EU reopened its political office in Kabul months after the Taliban’s return to power, exclusively aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. EU representatives have repeatedly called on Afghanistan’s de facto regime to remove the bans restricting women’s rights to education and work.
As an ally and partner, the EU has contributed quite a lot to the people of Afghanistan over the past two decades, and after the late regime change in the war-torn country. following the developments in the context of Afghanistan, the EU has said it will not support any armed conflict in the country but supports the revival of the intra-Afghan talks that would result in bringing sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
