European Parliament adopts resolution on Afghanistan

KABUL (Khaama Press): The European Parliament approved a resolution on respecting human rights in Afghanistan.
By passing the resolution, the European Parliament called on the Taliban administration of Afghanistan to respect the rights of women and girls.
This resolution was passed with 513 votes in favour, 9 against, and 24 abstentions. The European Parliament emphasized that any engagement between the European Union and the Taliban could only continue under strict conditions set by the Council and by the recommendations of the United Nations Special Rapporteur.
Members of the European Parliament have expressed concern about the humanitarian crisis and human rights in Afghanistan, stating that the Taliban has dismantled the judicial system.
The European Parliament continues to urge the Taliban government to urgently revive full and equal participation of women and girls in public life, especially in terms of access to education and employment.
The women’s rights crisis in Afghanistan has reached alarming levels following the Taliban’s return to power. Restrictions on women’s education, employment, and participation in public life have intensified, reversing many of the gains made in recent years. Women and girls face systemic discrimination and violence, with their basic rights being violated daily.
The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has deepened as conflict and instability persist. Millions of Afghans are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter, and medical care. Access to basic services is severely limited, exacerbating the suffering of vulnerable populations, particularly women, children, and internally displaced persons.
The return of refugees to Afghanistan has become increasingly challenging amidst the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation. Many refugees are reluctant to return to a country plagued by violence and uncertainty. Those who do return often face obstacles in rebuilding their lives, including a lack of access to essential services and livelihood opportunities. The international community must address the root causes of displacement and provide support for both returning refugees and host communities to ensure a sustainable solution to the refugee crisis in Afghanistan.
