EU’s Mogherini meets COAS, appreciates Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace

RAWALPINDI: High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ in Rawalpindi on Monday.

In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters of mutual interest and overall regional security situation were discussed, during the meeting.

The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and the positive role being played for regional peace and stability.

Earlier, she called on President Dr. Arif Alvi along with her in Islamabad today.

During meeting, the President asked the EU community to invest in Pakistan as business environment had improved remarkably with provision of all facilities to the foreign investors.

He said Pakistan valued its relations with the EU, which remained its traditional ally and a major trading partner. He expressed his satisfaction that the ties were improving further in all spheres of cooperation.

Pakistan’s exports to the EU, he said, had increased by 38 percent, while those of the EU to Pakistan had grown by 33 percent since the inception of GSP Plus Scheme in 2014. “Pakistan sees GSP Plus Scheme as constructive engagement for the betterment of its economy and values EU’s development assistance to Pakistan,” he added.

President Alvi said Pakistan strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations whether perpetrated by individuals, groups or states.

Pakistan, he said, had achieved remarkable success in the fight against terrorism. He, however, underscored that kinetic action alone could not address the threat posed by terrorism. A comprehensive response was required to tackle the global menace, he added.
