Ex-premier Abbasi says judiciary must restore its prestige

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the top judiciary should restore its prestige itself, believing that once an objection is raised on the bench, its judges can’t decide a case.

He was talking to media Tuesday outside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad where he came to attend the hearing of the LNG reference against him.

The former premier was of the view that the Supreme Court should have formed the full court to hear the election petition. The court verdicts should be such which do not entail any ambiguity, he opined.

He emphasized that the top judiciary should restore its prestige itself.

He said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan is sitting peacefully at his home, while his party workers are facing trials. He also said that Imran talked about so many things, but its the court which has to decide about these things.

Talking about his hearing today, Abbasi said that he appears before the accountability court in the NAB cases every week but no hearing of the case is held.

In a sarcastic tone, he said that courts take suo motu notices, urging them to also take suo motu notice of non-hearing of the cases.

He lamented that his case could not move forward today as it’s the fourth time that the judge, who was hearing the case, has been changed again.

Earlier, the accountability court heard the LNG reference against Abbasi and others.

The case was transferred to Administrative Judge Muhammad Bashir after the transfer of Judge Nasir Javed Rana.

The administrative judge conducted the case proceedings.

During hearing, the lawyer pleaded with the court to defer the case till the final decision on the case related to Amendments to NAB Laws.

Accepting his plea, the judge adjourned the hearing till May 2.
