Faizabad sit-in: Arrest warrant issued for Khadim Rizvi in 14 more cases

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police on Saturday issued arrest warrants for Tehreek-e-Labbaik-Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) firebrand cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi and other Faizabad sit-in suspects in 14 more cases.

The capital’s industrial zone police have collected arrest warrants against Rizvi from several courts. Terrorism Act, Section 7 has also been imposed against Rizvi and other suspected perpetrators of the sit-in.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday issued arrest warrants for Rizvi andAfzal Qadri in a case related to last year’s sit-in.

ATC on March 6 declared Rizvi as well as other leaders of Tehreek-e-Labbaik absconders and initiated the proclamation process against the suspects over their failure to appear for trials of cases relating to the Faizabad sit-in.

The National Assembly had passed an amendment to the Election Act, 2017, which was aimed at changing the eligibility criteria for a political party head, but it ended up touching the subject of the Finality of Prophethood or Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.

That triggered a protest by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), featuring a 21-day-long sit-in at Faizabad Interchange. The protesters forced the government to accept their demands after a government operation to break up the sit-in went awry and the protests spread to several parts the country.
