FATA’s future should not fall prey to politics: Sherpao

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party chief Aftab Ahmed Sherpao on Sunday said that the future of the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas and its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should not be put on the back-burner to gain political points.

Sherpao said this while addressing a press conference here after a meeting with the FATA youth jirga.

The QWP chief said the region’s residents are in favour of merger with KP and that the delay in the FATA reforms is inexplicable.

He also said that he is ready to hold talks with the Jamaat Ulema Islam-Fazl and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, the two parties opposing the merger.

A census “in its real sense” should be conducted in the region, Sherpao further said.

Commenting on the general elections, he said that the polls should be held on time and the consequences of a delay will have to be faced by everyone.
