KARACHI: World fertilizer day was commemorated by Fatima Fertilizers in collaboration with Government of Punjab & Potato Research Institute Sahiwal by organizing ‘Potato Seminar’ in Okara District.
The event featured more than two thousand potato farmers, researchers, related industrialists and Government Dignitaries such as Minister for Agriculture, Secretary Agriculture and D.G. Extension. In an effort to help famers achieve greater per acre yields detailed presentations were made on best practices for potato farming, pest and disease control, storage and balanced application of IFA (International Fertilizer Association) certified Sarsabz CAN (Calcium Ammonium Nitrate) and NP (Nitrophos) fertilizer.
The Government of Punjab in collaboration with Fatima Fertilizer is opening high-tech mechanization centers throughout Punjab. These centers will provide much needed potato farm mechanization at affordable prices; reducing cost of production and increasing yield per acre. Secretary Agriculture, Muhammad Mehmood in his speech announced government’s decision to cut all taxes on potato storages.
He requested farmers to diversify investments in multiple crops instead of focusing on a single crop which leads to excess supply and poor returns for the farmer. At the end of the event Fatima Fertilizer distributed one Tractor, 25 smart phones, 5 LED’s and other high value gifts among farmers through lucky draws.
