Fawad Alam also deserves a chance: Afridi

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Former flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi has said that Fawad Alam, who has been scoring profusely in domestic cricket, deserves a chance after the prolific middle-order duo of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan retired.

“He (Fawad Alam) is a very talented batsman and he deserves a chance,” Afridi, a former Pakistan skipper, said during signing of MoU of Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) with a private firm.

Pakistan selectors have been criticized for ignoring Fawad Alam, who has scored 2070 runs at an average of 59.14 while picking Haris Sohail, who hasn’t played a first-class game for over three years, for upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

Afridi further said that the series against Sri Lanka and competition against Asian teams poses little threat for team in green but the real test would be when they play in conditions Down Under following retirement of Misbah and Younis.

He also put his weight in the chorus asking for international games for Karachi as well.

“Hosting World XI has been a big achievement. Meanwhile, I would add that Karachi and other cities should also be given a chance to host international games as well,” he said. “Karachi is secure to host international games,” he added.

He further said that Mayor Karachi has asked him to give a written request to acquire a place for his proposed academy.
