Female head of NDS Gender Dept dies in Kabul

KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Tuesday that Gen. Sharmila Frogh, head of NDS gender department, has died from a magnetic IED blast in Kabul city.

According the National Directorate of Security (NDS), Gen. Sharmila and three others were wounded in Kabul city’s PD9, near Qazi Palaza, on Monday, but she died on Tuesday from “severe wounds”.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said that an IED was placed in her vehicle.

No group has claimed responsibility so far

On March 22, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the vehicle of Zarifa Ghafari, the mayor of Maidan Sher in Maidan Wardak province, in Kabul city, Ghafari said.

The incident happened in Khoshal Khan area of Kabul city and “the gunmen fled after the shooting,” she said.

“No other people were hurt in the incident,” said Ghafari.

US Embassy reacts to death of senior female Afghan intelligence official in Kabul:

The US Embassy in Kabul reacted to the death of senior female official of the Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security.

“Today, we mourn the death of National Directorate of Security (NDS) Gen. Sharmila Frough & offer our condolences to her family. For 30 years, she served #Afghanistan. She was a role model, a founding member of the women’s security shura, & a true patriot. We thank her & all those serving their country,” the US Embassy said in a Twitter post.

Gen. Sharmila, the director of the gender department of the National Directorate of Security, succumbed to injuries she had sustained in a bomb explosion.

According to informed security sources, Gen. Sharmila sustained the injuries after a magnetic bomb, planted in her vehicle, went off on Monday in Kabul city.
