Fifty-two held for violating price list
PESHAWAR: In light of violation of official price list being issued to shopkeepers, the district administration on Thursday conducted raids in parts of city and detaining 52 among them for not overpricing customers.
After distribution of price lists early in the morning among fruit sellers at market, the special squad formed earlier carried out visiting various bazaars against the shopkeepers for fleecing customers. The special squad formed by deputy commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh was tasked to monitor hike in prices of vegetables and fruits and take unprecedented action against violators.
An official of administration while issuing a news statement said that the team consists of additional assistant commissioner Fazal Raheem, assistant food controller Tasbiullah, additional assistant commissioner Qaiser Khan Kundi, Waqifullah and other officials visited different bazaars and checked that whether shopkeepers sell out commodities on government price list or not.
The shopkeepers were held from various bazaars including Hayatabad, Dalazak Road, Charsadda Road, Kohat Road, University Road, GT Road and inside city. The detailed persons will face legal action after arrests. DC directed additional assistant commissioners to ensure that shopkeepers follow the official price list in markets.
He clarified that no concession will be made with detailed persons in holy month of Ramazan for overcharging people. Earlier, 109 shopkeepers among them fruit, vegetable sellers, butchers, milk sellers and others had been apprehended in action taken against them by administration.
