PESHAWAR: As many as five persons have been killed and 13 others injured in the backdrop of snowfall and rain related incidents in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Spokesman of the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) on Thursday informed that 18 houses have fully been destroyed while 15 others partially damaged in various districts of the province. As 14 houses were extensively damaged in Kolai Palas Kohistan district while three each in Shangla, North Waziristan and Upper Dir were damaged, he added.
The documents shared by official of PDMA further added that 15 houses were partially damaged in North Waziristan, Shangla, Hangu and Upper Dir. While two persons were killed in Kolai Palas Kohistan district and one each in Khyber, Nowshera and Mardan district of KP, it added.
Most of the deaths, injuries and house damages have occurred owing to snowfall, roof collapse and other incidents in above-mentioned areas of the province, it informed. However, PDMA has distributed relief items among affected people of Kolai Palas Kohistan, Khyber, Bajaur, Shangla, Upper Dir and other areas that were badly suffered by recent rain and snowfall, it claimed.
The relief items include tents, blankets, plastic mats, kitchen seats and other equipments, the documents shared stated. It further informed that steps being taken to open clogged roads for traffic and extend relief to people in affected areas following snowfall and rain that lashed upper parts of the province.
As due to continuous snow, the following roads are blocked for traffic including Lawari Approach Road, Kalash Valley Road, Drosh Shishikoh Road, Chitral Garam Chashma Road and Chitral City (Internal Road).
