Five terrorists killed, one cop martyred in Peshawar operation

PESHAWAR: At least five suspected terrorists were gunned down in shot dead in an intelligence-based operation continuing for last 15 hours in Hayatabad area of Peshawar.

Police official told that a policeman was also martyred in the operation at a house in Phase-7 of Hayatabad locality of provincial capital.

The IBO operation, which was started late on Monday night, is still continuing as security personnel are struggling to clear the area.

Police force reached the Hayatabad area after receiving information regarding the presence of suspected terrorists in the house and cordoned it off.

The suspected terrorists hiding in the house opened fire on the police personnel in a bid to escape. As a result, a policeman identified as Qamar Alam was martyred.

The funeral prayer of martyred policeman, Qamar Alam was offered in which CM Mahmood Khan, IGP Muhammad Naeem Khan, Chief Secretary Muhammad Saleem Khan, Core Commander Shaheen Mazhar and others were present in the funeral prayer.

The police force restricted the suspected terrorists to a portion of the house and cleared its basement and ground floor. The militants were later shot dead in the exchange of fire.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jameelur Rahman, who led the operation, said that the killed militants were planning a terror attack in Peshawar.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa’s Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai told the media on Monday night that the raid was conducted in view of recent terrorist attack on a judge and an additional inspector general in the area.

In February this year, A judge of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Ayub Khan Marwat was shot and injured in a deadly attack. Justice Ayub Khan Marwat got injured when some unknown motorcyclists opened fire on his vehicle in Hayatabad area of Peshawar. The police had said the justice was on his way to the high court when his vehicle came under attack.
