Flash floods, earthquake kill29 in past month

KABUL (Khaama Press): At least 29 people were killed across 31 provinces due to flash floods and earthquakes in the past month, officials said.
According to Shafiullah Rahimi, a spokesperson for the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management, 29 people have died in 31 provinces of the country. In contrast, more than 105 others have been injured due to the recent earthquake and flash flooding during the last solar month (21 March to 20 April).
Meanwhile, he added that the natural disasters had physical and financial damages, including 155 residential houses being destroyed, 1,242 being partially damaged and 848 livestock perished, and 7,106 acres of agricultural land being destroyed.
Officials said that the affected families were assisted with relief such as food, tents and blankets.
“This ministry has distributed emergency aid to about 40,000 families in cooperation with government institutions and other organizations, and the process is ongoing,” Rahimi said.
Earlier, nine provinces of Afghanistan, including Balkh, Zabul, Faryab, Uruzgan, Nimroz, Nangarhar, Kunar, Nuristan, and Laghman, were severely hit with heavy rain, snow and flooding. As a result of heavy rain, more than 756 homes were destroyed partially or entirely.
Meanwhile, in March, local officials said a powerful tremor of 6.5 magnitudes rocked Afghanistan last week, killing ten people, injuring more than 60 people, and damaging more than 800 houses.
Afghanistan is the most vulnerable country to various natural disasters, including flooding, earthquake, avalanches, heavy rains and landslides.
