Flooding destroys crops across Afghanistan

KABUL (TOLOnews): Major flooding hit several parts of Afghanistan and damaged crops.
The Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock said that wheat and onions have been hit hard by the floods.
According to the State Ministry for Disaster Management, over 5,000 acres of agricultural land was hit by the floods, which also left more than 400 houses either partiality or fully destroyed.
“Due to floods in several provinces, our agriculture sector has been damaged. The farmers suffered as a lot of agricultural land was affected, particularly the harvests of wheat and onions,” said Mirwais Hajizada, deputy head of Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock.
“We have 16 martyrs and one wounded. At least 440 residences have been partially or fully destroyed. Around 650 livestock were killed,” said Ghulam Ghaws Nasiri, deputy State Minister for Disaster Management.
Meanwhile, some farmers in the eastern province of Nangarhar and the central province of Maidan Wardak expressed frustration over the losses they suffered due to flooding.
“In the season of wheat, our harvest was not good due to drought and now due to rainfall and floods, our harvest is affected,” said Lal Mohammad, a farmer from Nangarhar.
The floods hit the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Laghman, Panjshir, Parwan, Kabul, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Bamiyan, Ghazni, Logar, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Paktia, Khost and Daikundi as well as the Salang area.
