KABUL: Floral wreaths were placed at the monument to Ahmad Shah Massoud on his 17th death anniversary in Kabul on Sunday.
Former vice-president Yunus Qanuni, politicians, jihadi leaders and government officials commemorated the 17th anniversary Massoud’s assassination.
Afghanistan’s National Hero, Massoud was assassinated by two bombers posing as journalists 17 years ago. The son of Col. Dost Mohammad Khan, he was born in Panjsher district in 1953.
In 1975, he led the first revolt by Panjsher residents against the government of the time. The suicide attack on Massoud occurred in the Khwaja Bahauddin district in Takhar.
