FM Qureshi alleges PPP leadership buying lawmakers’ conscience

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday lashed out at the opposition parties and particularly PPP leadership and questioned them whether they are respecting the Constitution by bribing and offering the lawmakers to get support in a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He alleged PPP father-son duo Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are knocking at the doors of lawyers carrying heavy bags filled with cash.

The foreign minister was addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday.

“You are trying to buy the consciousness of the people. Beware of that. It is an unconstitutional act. A few of those people told us about the offer you made to the people,” Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

“I being a political worker, believed that all our allies including BAP, PML-Q, MQM and GDA had all the confidence in them. They are honourable people and stood by the government in thick and thin,” the foreign minister.

“Our allies are experienced people and they will not easily fall prey to the opposition’s gimmicks. The common people and intellectual people of the country know that the trio is marriage-in-convenience and an unholy alliance and they will fade away soon,” Shah Mehmood Qureshi said.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi counted a number of reasons for the fall of the opposition alliance and said the opposition parties have no common ideology, united leadership and any shared manifesto.

He asked Bilawal Bhutto whether he really thinks Maryam Nawaz Sharif considers him the leader of the future.

The trader community has also been evaluating the opposition gimmick whether it really favours the country or not.

The foreign minister also blamed the opposition for diverting Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace in Afghanistan.

“What signals are given to the eastern country… that recently conducted an accidental and technological failure {supersonic flying object into Pakistan}, by creating uncertainty in the country,” he added.

Qureshi believed that the opposition will meet a failure in near future.

“People are watching the change in priorities of the opposition instead of preparing for the next general elections …they are bringing no-confidence motion,” he added.

The foreign minister expressed his resolve to conduct the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) on March 22 and 23 in Islamabad.

He alleged that PPP gave Rs30,000 to workers to participate in the Awami March.
