FM Qureshi lands in Turkey to attend OIC emergency meeting after NZ mosque attacks

ISTANBUL: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has landed in Turkey to attend the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) after the New Zealand Mosque attacks, on Friday.

According to reports, the emergency meeting of OIC will be held in Istanbul on Friday (today) to discuss the Christchurch massacre and increasing violence based on Islamophobia.

A statement was published by the Turkish foreign ministry on Thursday which informed that Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu would chair the meeting.

“Turkey, as the OIC Summit Chair, has called upon holding an emergency meeting for discussing the increasing violence based on Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia, in particular the terrorist attack that targeted two mosques in New Zealand on 15 March 2019,” the statement said.

Furthermore, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will hold meetings with his counterparts from Turkey, Iran and New Zealand.
