KABUL: Prominent politician, Jihadi leader and former President of Afghanistan Sibghatullah Mojaddedi has died, sources close to his family confirm.
Born in 1926 in Kabul, Mojaddedi was appointed as the Acting President and head of the interim government after the victory of Mujahideen against Soviet forces.
Mojaddedi left for Pakistan in 1978 following 1978 coup which resulted into the victory of People’s Democratic Party and started political and armed campaign against the government of the time by forming National Liberation Front.
He was appointed as the Chairman of the Afghan Senate, Upper House of Parliament (Meshrano Jirga) in 2003. (Khaama Press)
