Former CM Balochistan Sardar Ataullah Mengal passes away

QUETTA: Former and first chief minister of Balochistan and veteran politician Sardar Ataullah Mengal has passed away at the age of 93 in a private hospital in Karachi.

Sardar Ataullah Mengal was undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital in Karachi for a week now.

His funeral will be held in his hometown of Wadh, in district Khuzdar. Ataullah Mengal was the father of Balochistan National Party chief Akhtar Mengal.

Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Pakistan Chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sinjrani, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed their condolences on the sad demise of a veteran politician.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said he was deeply saddened by the demise of senior politician Sardar Ataullah Mengal. “Death of Sardar Ataullah Mengal marks the end of an era of prudence, tolerance, and dignified politics in Pakistan. Sardar Mengal’s long struggle for rights and democracy in Balochistan is an unforgettable chapter of our history,” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari added.

Balochistan National Party Senator Sana Ullah Baloch announced the news in a tweet.
