KARACHI: At least twelve people drowned at Hawkesbay bench of Karachi here on Saturday inviting irks of the Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah and exposing precautionary arrangements at beaches.
According to rescue sources, dead bodies of eleven of those drowned were recovered whereas search was underway for the twelfth dead body till filing of this report.
According to police, a family from North Nazimabad and North Karachi had come for picnic at the Hawkesbay beach where they drowned.
According to eyewitness three people drowned in the sea and when other started to rescue them high waves took them to deep water as well.
SP Keemari told The Frontier Post that eleven dead bodies have been recovered of which eight were shifted to civil hospital for medico-legal formalities.
According to the police official the family was warned several times not to go in deep waters but they continued to ignore the warnings.

Meanwhile, CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken strong note of the sea incident, summoning report of the authorities as why were no precautionary measure being taken. He also asked as why the aggrieved family was allowed to go in deep waters.
On August 26, the son of Saudi vice-council general, along with two other Saudi nationals, drowned near Neelam point at Hawkesbay Beach, police sources informed Geo News.
Bodies of all three men — Aalaa Al Autibi, Fahad Aloseami and Abdullah Al Ausebi — were retrieved and shifted to a private hospital in Clifton, City SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio said.
In May, at least six youths were drowned in two different incidents at the beaches of Pakistani metropolis of Karachi here on Tuesday, officials and rescue said. The dwellers of the city took to the beaches of Karachi due to hot weather and power outage.
According to details the first incident occurred when the kids of a private school in Orangi went for picnic on the Sandspit beach near Hawksbay in Karachi, police said. Four of the kids drowned when the go inside the deep waters, eyewitness said,
The kids were identified as Muhammad Hamza, Aijaz and Ali. The second incident occurred at sea view beach where two friends drowned in the sea waters. A man has drowned near Karachi’s Sea view location after he and another person were swept away by strong waves.
The two people were swimming near Sea view and Do Darya when they were overpowered by the waves, prompting rescue workers to show up at the scene. Rescuers managed to recover one of the swimmers in a state of unconsciousness; while the other’s dead body was retrieved from the sea.
Drowning incidents are common in the summer season, when picnickers flock to the beaches to beat the soaring temperatures in the city. The number of bathers drowned in the last four days has jumped to 11, raising questions on administration’s performance. Citizens questioned the absence of lifeguards to prevent bathers from going into deep waters at the beaches.
