Freedom of expression, media help everyone’s shared responsibility

KABUL (Agencies): Second Vice-President Sarwar Danesh in a meeting held by Afghanistan Journalist Center on the occasion of commemoration of National Journalist Day considered that supporting from freedom of expression and press was the common responsibility of the government and media activists.

In his speech, Second Vice-President first congratulated the day to all journalists and media workers, praying for the soul of martyrs of ANDSF personnel, victims and martyrs of the country’s journalism society.

Pointing to peace process and talks with the Taliban, Second Vice-President said that Afghans would not accept the Emirate System, adding that Afghans would only accept a system which would be based on freedom of expression and press as this was the base of other freedom in the country too.

“All the people of Afghanistan, the country’s media organizations, youth, civil society and all those believing in freedom and democracy should be ready for some kind of struggle as well,” Danesh said, adding that in general the journalism society of the country would also participate to support freedom of expression and media in possible intra-Afghan dialogue.

Related to work of Afghanistan government in particular the joint committee of the government and media led by Second Vice-President during the past three years, Danesh said a range of steps have been taken towards freedom of expression, reduction of violence against journalists, addressing cases of violence against women, providing legal facilities, access to information and others.

Second Vice-President in his speech also considered role of media towards prevention of the coronavirus outbreak as key, saying that media could play vital and effective role in awareness of the people.
