Freezing cold: Demand for dried meet up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some dried meat shopkeepers in capital Kabul said their sale had increased with the growing demand for dried meat also known as ‘Landi’ locally due to increasing cold weather.
Landi is a traditionally known food in Afghanistan and it is consumed during winter seasons. Most families dry it in their homes while some purchase it from the market.
It is the middle of the winter season in Afghanistan and the market of dried meat had flourished. Bismillah Rabanizada, one of the sellers of local cooking oil and dried meat in the Pul-i-Kheshti area of Kabul, said: “I daily sell up to 150 kilograms of dried meat because people demand it even from outside the country and their relatives buy it and send it to them there.” He said this year he made the Landi of 850 sheep.
According to sources currently the rate of one kilogram of dried sheep meat in capital Kabul accounted for 750 afs.
Rustam, one of the shopkeepers of dried meat, said he sell up to 3,000 kilograms of dried meat during winter season.
He said there are two method of drying sheep meat one included fate and the other excluded fate.
He said: “Dried meat is a meal of choice and most people during winter buy it.” Mohammad Mansour, one of the Kabul residents, said: “Today I come here to buy dried meat and send it to our relatives in the foreign country.”
He said there is no facility to dry meat in the foreign country therefore they decided to send it from Kabul. “Dried meat is very delicious and people like it.” Noorul Haq Niyazi, another Kabul resident, said he has guests and wanted to cook dried meat for them so he came to the market to buy it.
