KABUL (Khaama Press): Da Afghanistan Bank on Monday announced that a fresh $40 million humanitarian aid package was shipped to Kabul, as Afghanistan Central Bank plans to auction $17 million tomorrow to stabilize the value of the local currency.
Afghanistan central bank also known as ‘Da Afghanistan Bank’ (DAB) on Monday said on Twitter that as part of United Nations cash aid, a fresh $40 million was transferred to Kabul.
Meanwhile, DAB wants to auction another %17 million aimed at strengthening the value of Afghani against foreign currencies, United States Dollar in particular. Moreover, Afghanistan’s central bank had sold %17 million earlier in the week.
Over the past four days, $120 USD has been transferred to the country as part of the UN humanitarian aid. The UN cash aid packages transferred to Kabul reaches more than $1.8 billion since the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021.
United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has repeatedly clarified that cash packages shipped to Afghanistan are deposited in UN accounts in private banks, and will be used by UN agencies solely for the purpose of humanitarian aid and other supportive programs. The money will not be handed over to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the announcement said.
A central reason the United Nations brings cash into Afghanistan is due to the disruption to international banking transfers and liquidity issues since August 2021.
Despite all the odds, including the financial challenges and the dire economic situation in the country, Afghani’s value has not depreciated since the Taliban’s takeover. Maintaining a stable value of the local currency is a positive sign to help recover the broken economy of war-torn Afghanistan.
