Fuel prices up, gold & cooking oil down in last six months

KABUL (Pajhwok): Fuel prices increased by 12 percent and that of some food items surged by averagely 10 percent while the prices of cooking dropped by 34 percent and gold 10 percent compared to their prices six months ago, Pajhwok Afghan News findings show.
Fuel prices
During the ongoing year, fuel prices significantly increased as one liter of diesel price jumped to 127afs two months ago.
Fuel traders and sellers of petroleum produces link the increase in fuel prices in the country’s market to their increase in the global markets.
According to a Pajhwok report, six months ago, one liter of petrol was accounted for 68 afs and one liter diesel for 78afs and one kilogram of liquified gas for 72afs.
But last Saturday, the price of one liter of petrol was 84afs and one liter of diesel 97afs and one kilogram of liquified gas 65afs.
The previous and current prices show a 13 percent increase.
Food items
According to Pajhwok report six months ago, the price of 24.5 kilogram of Pakistani rice was 2,500afs, 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour 2,300afs, 49-kilogram India sugar 2,800 afs, 16 liters of Malaysian cooking oil 2,650afs, one kilogram of black African tea 400afs and the same amount of Indonesia green tea was sold for 350afs.
But today the price of 24.5 kilogram of Pakistani rice is 3,000afs, 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour for 2,450afs, 49-kilogram India sugar 3,000 afs, 16 liters of Malaysian cooking oil for 17, 50afs, one-kilogram black African tea 400afs and the same amount of Indonesia green tea for 350afs.
The current figures show rice, flour and sugar prices increased compared to last six months but the rate of cooking oil decreased and tea prices remain unchanged.
An interim deal has been reached with Russia to supply diesel, gas and wheat to Afghanistan, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Commerce Ministry Spokesperson Abdul Salaam Jawad said the agreement on fuel, gas, and wheat export was signed during the recent trip of the commerce minister to Russia.
“Our technical teams were working on the agreement that was signed last month and it is now finalised and would be implemented after it is conveyed,” he said.
He added: “The items have not been transported yet and they would be brought through train, trailers and lorry trucks.”
Gold prices
Pajhwok findings show the price of gold decreased by 10 percent during last six months.
Six months ago, the price of one gram of Arabi gold in Kabul market was 4,400afs and one gram of Russian variety accounted for 3,500afs.
But Mohammad Javid, a jewelry seller in Laycee Maryam market, said on Thursday (today) that one gram of Arabic gold accounted for 3,900afs and one gram of Russian for 3,200afs.
The value of the afghani against dollar decreased by one percent. Six months ago, one US dollar consumed 87afs but today it was exchanged for 88afs.
