Full proof security promised to tourists in Dir

TIMERGARA: Commandant Dir Task force (DTF) Colonel Shehzad Amir on Wednesday said the security forces would provide full proof security to national and international tourists in the area for promoting the sector of tourism.

He was addressing a seminar regarding promotion of tourism at the Abdul Wali Khan University Timergara campus as chief guest. The Pakistan army Maidan Battalion had organized the seminar for university’s students, faculty members and administration.

The MNA from Lower Dir Sahibzada Yaqub Khan, commandant Maidan battalion Lt. Colonel Umar Rashid Chaudhry, Lt. Colonel Kamran, civil and military officials were also in attendance.

The AWKU Mardan cultural and tourism expert Qadir Bakhash Baluch, tourism and culture department’s Dr Ijaz Khan, international award winner woman cyclist Samar Khan and others spoke on the occasion. The venue was decorated with ancient household items, handmade traditional Dir caps and foot wears ancient weapons like swords, dragger and arrows etc. Earlier the visitors took keen interest in the stalls set up by culture and tourism department of the varsity and individuals. Male and female students visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan army and tourism department.

The speakers praised the natural beauty and scenic spots of the region and said that last year 3 million tourists both from Pakistan and abroad visited Dir. They said the sector of tourism had great potential and could be a source of income for many locals. They said the CPEC would enhance and promote tourism in the northern areas of Pakistan. The speakers urged the participants to play their active role in promoting tourism in the region. They said the government also should take practical steps to attract more tourists to visit the area.

Colonel Shehzad said that last peace prevailed in the area due to sacrifices rendered by general public and security forces. He said the security forces would facilitate tourists and provide them full security in the area.
