Gen. Votel, Hayat confer on Nangarhar security situation

JALALABAD: US central command chief Gen. Joseph Votel has discussed security situation and other issues with the governor of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Gen. Votel traveled to the provincial capital, Jalalabad, and met with Governor Hayatullah Hayat at the airport.

He said governor Hayat shared security, economic, political and social situations and achievements with the top US military official.

The governor said efforts were underway to ensure security, prevent land grabbing, corruption and increase coordination between security and judicial organs.

Gen. Votel expressed his satisfaction with the security situation in Nangarhar and hailed the governor’s efforts in prevention of land grabbing and corruption.

Both discussed preparations for the upcoming presidential election, progress in the peace process and some other issues. (Pajhwok)
