German Airport Security Staff Strike, Disrupting Flights

GERMANY: Security staff at 11 German airports, including Frankfurt, launched a 24-hour strike on Thursday, demanding higher pay and better working conditions. The walkout, organized by the labor union Verdi, resulted in flight cancellations and delays, affecting nearly 200,000 travelers.

Verdi is advocating for a pay increase of €2.80 per hour and improved overtime benefits for approximately 25,000 workers. The strike adds to a series of recent industrial actions in Germany’s transportation sector, causing significant disruptions.

The German airports association ADV reported over 1,100 flight cancellations or delays across major airports like Berlin and Hamburg. Hamburg is set to experience further strikes on Friday, affecting ground service staff.
