Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Afghan President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani has said the country was facing an imposed and brutal war.

Addressing the inauguration of the joint command of the special reaction units of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) here on Saturday, President Ghani said the security forces were treating the enemy in the framework of law.

Lauding the special forces, he said the NDS was determined to the principles of law. There were no torture and inhuman actions in the NDS, he observed. The enemy was treated on the basis of law, he added. “Now we are facing an imposed and brutal war. We are thankful to NDS for key, vigorous and on time investigation. I stress that investigation and information should be considered seriously and action should be taken on the basis of information,” the president said.

He urged the NDS officers to protect themselves and their colleagues and conduct operations with bravery. On the occasion, head of NDS, Muhammad Masoom Stanikzai said despite challenges, the security forces of the country were able to protect the sovereignty of the country with determination over the past three years.

He assured that NDS would continue its efforts for the restoration of peace and stability to the country. Commander of NDS reaction and special units, Ghulam Mustafa Wardak said the special units had worthy maps to maintain peace. The intelligence operatives were busy in special security and joint combat missions to maintain security in 34 provinces of the country, he added.

On the occasion, medals were given to six NDS operatives for showing bravery in maintaining peace, security, sovereignty of the country, war against the enemy and serving the country. The president awarded promotion to NDS deputy heads Abdul Saboor Qani and Ibadullah Ibad.
