Ghani discuss peace efforts, Loya Jirga and elections with Sayaf

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with the former Mujahideen leader Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf to discuss existing national issues including peace effort, convening Loya Jirga, and upcoming presidential elections.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said President Ghani visited the residence of Ustad Sayyaf on late Monday.

The statement further added that the two sides held talks regarding peace process, convening Loya Jirga (Grand Council), mechannism for the formation of negotiating team, and upcoming presidential elections.

ARG Palace has not disclosed further information regarding the meeting.

This comes as efforts are underway to start direct negotiations with the Taliban and convene Loya Jirga regarding peace process. (Khaama Press)
