Ghani meets US Commander

KABUL: President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani and commander of US forces in Afghanistan General Joseph Votel discussed various ways to boost the capabilities of Afghan forces during a meeting at the Presidential Palace yesterday.

According to a presidential office press release available with Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), both the sides discussed various issues, including security, regional matters, action against terrorist outfits, war on terrorism, boosting the capabilities of Afghan National Army (ANA) and Afghan National Police, increasing the energy of Afghan Air Force and bringing reforms in security and defence agencies.

President Ghani lauded the United States of America for providing bullock helicopters to Afghan forces.

On the occasion, General Joseph Votel condemned the attacks on Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul and Save the Children in Jalalabad city.

He assured continued assistance of US for the boosting of Afghan security and defence forces.

It is pertinent to mention here that hundreds of people were killed and injured in a suicide attack in Kabul city yesterday. Most of the victims were civilians.
