Ghani pledges to address lack of teachers in schools

KABUL (Tolo News): President Ashraf Ghani during a trip to Kandahar province pledged that 4,000 more teachers would be provided by the government to the region. He also pledged to take practical measures for the construction of Dahla Dam and to address the plight of those displaced from their homes due to war in various parts of the province.

Some districts in Kandahar have seen some of the fiercest battles between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants in the past five months. Massive damage has been inflicted on the infrastructure in the province. War also displaced hundreds of families in Arghandab and Zhari districts.

“All problems that we have in any district will be resolved,” said Ghani. “We also order the Ministry of Education to ensure that the vacant posts are filled within four months,” added Ghani. Meanwhile, Ghani’s First VP Amrullah Saleh, who accompanied Ghani on the trip, said that the Taliban will not take power though force.

During his trip, Ghani also inaugurated a 200-bed hospital in the province. Today’s trip marks Ghani’s second visit to the province in the past six months. An explosion was also reported in the city while Ghani was meeting elders of the province. According to Kandahar police, the Taliban used a child to carry a bomb, but the bomb exploded and took the legs off the child on the street.
