Ghani refutes Taliban’s notion behind the group’s latest spring offensive

HELMAND (KHAAMA PRESS): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in reaction to the announcement of the latest spring offensive by the Taliban group has said that the group has no justification for the launch of the offensive under the name of Al-Khandaq.

In his speech during a ceremony to mark the 26th victory of Mujahideen, President Ghani said the announcement of the offensive under the name of Al-Khandaq is strange.

“Against whom Prophet Mohammad P.B.U.H fought during the Al-Khandaq war?” President Ghani said while raising a question to Taliban.

He said “Are they fighting against the Jihadi leaders, Ulemas, elders, and the ordinary people?” President Ghani asked.

President Ghani further added that the religious Fatwas issued by Saudi, Indonesia, and even Pakistan prove that the war in Afghanistan has no religious justification.

The Taliban group on Wednesday announced the start of the new spring offensive as the group emphasizes that the new offensive is being announced in response to the new US strategy that paves the way for the deployment of thousands of more foreign troops.

The group in a statement said the offensive (Al-Khandaq) operations will kick off across the country from today to target the foreign and Afghan forces as well as the government.

Taliban claims that certain parts of the country are still in control of the foreign forces and the announcement of the new strategy by President Trump has paved the way for the deployment of thousands more troops to Afghanistan.
