Ghani stresses zero meddling in police

KABUL (Agencies): Addressing 11th convocation ceremony at the Police National Academy also known as Shaheed General Raziq here in Kabul, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and supreme commander of the armed forces said no one was allowed to interfere in Police affairs, saying meddling in Ministry of Interior Affairs should be zero.

Emphasizing on government’s full support of Police forces and determination for implementation of law, the president said Police should ensure citizens’ rights, adding officials should do more to provide an atmosphere free of discrimination, mistrust and corruption within the academy, the statement form the presidential press office quoted him as saying.

The president went on saying that the country’s national police, who had to fought insurgents in last 18 years, needed to be returned back to their primary task, which is implementation of law, according to the statement.

Congratulating graduation of 455 police officers from National Police Academy, the president called them symbol of national unity who defend the soil till last drop of their bloods. “We are committed to address the families of martyrs. Our police while accepting martyrdom, have proved that they have strong Islamic and national morale”

Referring to measures to reduce crime in the capital city, acting minister of interior, MasoudAndrabi said that new anti-crime and working procedures for Police districts had been introduced, adding 400 individuals from MoI headquarter have been tasked to further strengthen Kabul’s security plan.

The acting minister interior also outlined the functions and programs of the ministry in the areas of professionalization and training of the police, dealing with oppression, supporting the police and dealing with the families of police martyrs, the statement added. The ceremony ended with conferring five state medals of Mir Bacha Khan Masjidi for top five police officers of the 11th round of convocation of the Police Academy.
