LAKKI MARWAT: A committee comprising elders and local bodies’ members has said that numerous problems in different sectors have added to the miseries of rural population as the government seems reluctant to pay any heed to solve the longstanding problems. The committee named as ‘Ghromanj’ (an area surrounded by mountains) met here with Yousaf Khan in the chair to discuss problems and formulate strategy for seeking government attention. Local government representatives and elders attended the meeting. They regretted that the present and successive government ignored their rural localities in uplift program. The poor road infrastructure is the main reason of the backwardness of area lagging behind in all fields especially in education and health sector”, they maintained. They said that local population lacked education and health facilities besides they had no access to other basic amenities of life.

An elder Ali Muhammad asked the government to extend the under construction Wanda Dalwati road to Wanda Nizami as it would benefit a large population in the rural belt. He said that Wanda Nizami was located on the border with DI Khan district and that local residents had to face difficulties during travelling to Lakki city and other towns. The extension of road project will help to usher a new era of development in the backward border rural localities”, he maintained.

Another elder Hazrat Ali underlined the need for up-gradation of only primary school to middle level as local students discontinued education after primary education. The poor parents cannot afford sending their children to the middle school located at a distance of five kilometers”, he claimed, adding that the area students deserved to get middle and secondary education near their homes.

They criticized forest department officials for not bothering to trim bushes of roadside tress despite repeated requests and raising the issue during open session convened by local deputy commissioner in Darra Tang. “The overgrown branches cause fatal accidents on Chashma Darra Tang and Lakki Darra Tang roads and the higher authorities concerned should take notice of it”, they added. They asked the local administration to direct officials of forest department and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority to prune shrubs and cut away stems so as to clear roads for smooth flow of traffic and avoid happening of accidents. They said that local residents had to go to the hospitals in Lakki city and Eesakhel (Punjab) to get healthcare facilities, demanding of the government to upgrade the only dispensary situated in Wanda Meer Alam village to the status of basic health unit so that residents could avail better treatment facilities at local level.
