MUMBAI: Independence Day saw two releases this year. One was Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy’s Gold and the other was John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate. Gold earned Rs 25.25 crores on its first day while Satyameva Jayate roped in Rs 20.52 crores.
Both the films impressed with their collections on the first day as it was a national holiday making it ideal for the audience to flock to the theatres. But, on day two, that was yesterday, both the films saw a dip in its collections while Gold cashed in Rs 8 crores, John’s film earned Rs 7.92 crores. The figures pushed the total collection of Gold to an impressive Rs 33.25 crores, while Satyameva Jayate is not too far behind with Rs 28.44 crores. Collections of both these films are expected to witness a rise today as the weekend kicks in.
Gold and Satyameva Jayate are currently moving at not even an arms distance at the cash counters but this weekend will make it clearer as to which film is being loved more by the audience.
