Governments’ dialogue offer to JUI
The Core Committee of PTI, with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Chair, decided to hold dialogue with Maulana Fazlalur Rehman to reach a political deal for defusing the rising political tension. A dialogue Committee has been constituted headed by the Defense Minister Pervaiz Khattak, which will hold talks with JUI (F) Central Amir to ascertain his political demands and sort them out through political means. The postponement of the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan—scheduled for 23rd October—seems to be the major causality of escalating political temperature.
In response to the serious conciliatory gesture of ruling party, Maulana FazaluRehman has refused to accept talks offer and is sticking to his single point agenda of Prime Minister’s resignation before coming to the dialogue table with government. He repeated this illogical demand in a joint press conference with Pk MAP Supremo Mahmood Khan Achakzai and once again rejected the results of 2018 polls as grossly rigged. The transparency of last year general election had been confirmed by the reports of Commonwealth Observers and national watchdogs including PILDAT and FAFIN. Mahmood Khan Achakzai lost election while contesting against a JUI (F) candidate. Was it also an example of polls rigging set by the winning candidate? The inelastic stance of Maulana Fazalur Rehman reminds the famous saying of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, which goes: “The last word is never said in politics.”This he had said when he had invited the alliance of 9 opposition parties in agitation on roads in the aftermath of 1977 general election which the opposition claimed to have been rigged. At that time opposition parties grand alliance, Pakistan National Alliance, had not demanded the resignation of the sitting Prime Minister but had been pressing for fresh election. But contrary to this established norm of healthy politics of putting forwards genuine and realistic demands, JUI leadership is saying the last word in politics by asking for the stepping down of a popularly elected Prime minister Imran Khan. Is JUI (F) Central Amir bent upon derailing the democratic system which moving forward to the destined goal of functional democracy? Do other opposition parties support JUI (F) peculiar protest agenda against PTI government?
Maulana Fazalur Rehnan is giving militant dimension to politics by raising a baton laden volunteer force for JUI (F), the “Ansarul Islam Force.” The force will accompany the marchers towards the federal capital Islamabad. It does not augur well for the future of politics in the country. The volunteer force cloaked in yellow color uniform is akin to a private militia as it is has been divided into a number of units and each unit is commanded by a Salar (commander). The nomenclature of Ansarul Islam is not new on as a banned militant organisation under the same title had operated in the Bara Subdivision of Khyber Agency. A front page snippet news item indicates that Khyber Pukhtunkhwa government is weighing legal options under the Article-256 of the constitution against the formation of JUI (F) Ansarul Islam Force. It was on last Sunday that a few contingents of this force had conducted a military drill and presented guard of honour to Maulana Fazalur Rehman. Later it took out baton laden rally on motorbikes on Ring Road. What is the motive of party leadership behind this show of strength?
Let us hope that sanity will prevail and other opposition parties will persuade JUI (F) leadership to hold talks with government on national issues.
