Governor underlines needs for medical education

PESHAWAR: Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that research and medical education are the backbone of academic institution and is playing pivotal role in treating and providing care to the population of any country.

He expressed these views as a chief guest on convocation of Khyber College of dentistry here on Monday.

Prof. Dr. Arshad Javed; Vice Chancellor, Khyber Medical University, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool, Dean Khyber College of Dentistry, Faculty members, passing out graduates, parents of the students and others were also present.

Congratulating the graduating students, the Governor said “realizing your cherished dreams, remind you that the road ahead is long but you need to apply the skills with honesty and code of ethics must be followed”.

Pointing towards the graduating students, the Governor said, their parents and faculty have put in sustained and sincere efforts to enable them to lead a successful practical life. Now, he added that they have entered the new life which is full of challenges and opportunities and they are expected to take up the challenges boldly and not to miss opportunities to excel in their profession.

The Governor, while addressing the ceremony said, “institutions need teamwork to grow and this can be achieved to rise above gender, caste, race and regionalism. To do so you must eliminate bias by deciding every issue on basis of factual figures, dignity, transparency, accountability and meritocracy”.

The Governor urged young doctors to perform their duties with the aim to serve humanity irrespective of creed, color, caste or language.

The Governor also awarded degrees and medals to 68 graduates in dentistry. Out of which, 17 students were awarded with gold medals and 10,000 rupees respectively. Moreover, the Governor also announced Rs.1 million for Khyber College of dentistry.

He also congratulated the graduates; their faculty and the parents and wished them to experience many more such like occasions in their future lines. Earlier, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Rasool welcomed the Governor and highlighted the working and achievements of the college.
