Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Mohammad Yaqoob Haidari, Kabul governor, warned that the government will issue “tough measures” if Kabul’s residents are not willing to comply with the order to stop unnecessary movement around the city.

According to Haidari, the security forces will act to implement the restrictions. “If the situation is going to continue like this, we will be forced to use power and to sentence people financially. We will implement the law 100 percent,” said Haidari.

This comes as Kabul city is in its fifth day of lockdown.

Most of the people that moving in Kabul city are vendors who said they can’t cover their costs if they don’t work.

“Quarantine is like a jail. Poor people can’t find their food,” said Mohammad Akram, a vendor.

“The coronavirus is a serious virus. We should be careful about it. In Kabul it has not spread yet, but it will spread,” said Mohammad Afzal, a resident of Kabul city.

Besides Kabul, people have been banned from unnecessary movement in Herat city, Zaranj, Farah city, Mazar-e-Sharif, Lashkar Gah, Ghazni city, Kandahar city as well as other areas to prevent the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Based on Ministry of Public Health numbers, 196 positive cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Afghanistan and more than half of the cases are reported from the western province of Herat.

The virus has killed four people in Afghanistan, the ministry said. (TOLOnews)
