Govt allocates over Rs 1.9 bln for Defence development initiatives

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated over Rs 1.9 billion for nine different on-going and new development schemes of the Ministry of Defence in the financial year 2021-22.
The budgetary allocations for three on-going projects were over Rs 470.071 million against the total estimated cost of Rs 733.645 million, however, Rs 263.575 million were to be spent till June 30, 2021, said the budgetary document released here under Public Sector Development Programme (PSPD) 2021-22.
The maximum funding was earmarked for Procurement of three Latest Printing Machines for Modernization of Survey of Pakistan of Rs339.508 million where the total project cost was Rs453.241 million and Rs 113.734 million were to be spent till June 30, 2021.
The project of feasibility study for establishment of national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI) for Pakistan was allocated Rs 89.896 million against the total estimated cost of Rs 90 million whereas 0.104 million were to spent till June 30, 2021.
The Establishment of FG Degree College for Boys at Kohat was earmarked Rs 40.667 million against the total estimated cost of Rs 190.404 million where Rs 149.737 were to be spent till June 30, 2021.
The new development schemes of the Defence Ministry were earmarked the maximum allocations under the PSPD 2021-22 of over Rs 1.507 billion for six different development projects against the total estimated cost of over Rs7.301 billion.
The maximum allocations were marked down for the projects included Establishment of National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP) in Pakistan Aviation City of Rs 700 million against the total estimated cost of over Rs 3.481 billion.
The Development of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Based Precision Agriculture System utilizing Dual-use Aerospace Technologies-GREENAI was allocated Rs 400 million against the total estimated cost of Rs 1.879 billion, Construction of Multi Functional Classified Building at DCI was allocated Rs 300 million against the total estimated cost of Rs 1.832 billion.
Rs27,000 million earmarked for PAEC in PSDP 2021-22: The government has allocated Rs27,000 million for the 12 ongoing and six new schemes of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2021-22.
According to budgetary documents issued on Friday, Rs25,203 million has been earmarked for the on-going schemes of PAEC while Rs1797 million has been allocated for the new schemes.
Among the ongoing schemes, an amount of Rs16525.112 million has been earmarked for Karachi Coastal Power Project (Unit 1 and 2), Rs2565.321 for Fuel Fabrication Plant (FPP), Rs2000 million for Pakistan Research Reactor-3 (10MGth Upgradable to 20 MWth), Rs1,388 million for National Electronics Complex of Pakistan, NECOP, NESCOM, Islamabad and Rs1000 million for upgradation of KIRAN, Karachi.
Among the new schemes, Rs600 million has been allocated for Atomic Energy Cancer Hospital-Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AECH-AJK), Rs500 million for upgradation of INMOL, Lahore, Rs377 million for Refurbishment and Modernization of Heavy Foundry and Forge Facilities at HMC and Rs288 million for Land Acquisition for GudiKhel Uranium Mining project.
