F.P. Report
ISLAMABAD: Federal government on Friday appointed Mushtaq Mahar as the new Inspector General of Police Sindh (IGP).
Sources said that the federal cabinet had approved a summary for the appointment of Mushtaq Mahar as Sindh IGP through circulation.
The Establishment Division has issued a notification in this regard. The government has handed over the responsibilities of Mushtaq Mahar to the Sindh government.
In January, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to remove the incumbent provincial Inspector General of Police Kaleem Imam.
Later, the prime minister agreed to replace Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Kaleem Imam, and promised to address other concerns raised by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah regarding provincial matters.
On January 29, PM Imran Khan decided to transfer incumbent Sindh Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam to the post of Secretary Narcotics Division of the federal government.
The decision was taken at a meeting between PM Imran and Sindh IGP Imam in Islamabad. During the meeting, the province’s top cop briefed the premier regarding the law and order situation across the province.
It is pertinent here to mention that PM Imran had said that an IGP would be appointed in Sindh which would not used for political purposes.
