ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Monday asked the government to clear legal status of the agreement with the religious parties which ended three-week long sit-in.
The IHC judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui heard the case pertaining to religious parties’ sit-in at Faizaabad Interchange.
During the proceedings, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) submitted its report in the court.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui remarked that the government talks about the supremacy of the parliament.
The Islamabad High Court judge while giving two options to the federal government, asked the government to either present the agreement with the religious parties’ in the parliament or clear the validity of the agreement in a high level meeting.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that the Islamabad police personnel were beaten in the Faizabad operation, adding that they should be given four months extra salary.
He further remarked that the trial will not end until every police personnel is provided facilities.
The Islamabad High Court judge asked if the federal and provincial governments would pay for the damages of government properties.
The judge further asked how terrorism related charges were dropped against whom cases are filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act can be pardoned.
Arguing before the court, Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf said that the Supreme Court took suo moto notice of the sit-in and all aspects were discussed in the order issued by the Court.
The court said that it cannot endorse the agreement between the government and the sit-in leaders.
The court, however, advised that the agreement and its legality be discussed in the parliament.
Justice Siddiqui replied that the court is more aware about facts than the lawyer.
Talking to Attorney General, Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui said that legal position of the agreement must be checked and its copy must be sent to joint session of the Parliament or federal government should discuss it with arbitrators.
Attorney General said that Raja Zafar-ul-Haq report will also be presented before the court.
The attorney general asked the court for some time to submit a detailed report on the case.
The Islamabad High Court later adjourned the hearing until January 12.
