ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar Monday said that the government was committed to strengthen intra-country connectivity through road infrastructure development, especially in less developed areas.
Improved connectivity would generate business activities and bring economic benefits to far flung areas of the country, he said while chairing a meeting here on road infrastructure projects of National Highway Authority.
Minister for Communications Murad Saeed, Secretary Communications Shoaib Siddiqui, Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan, Chairman NHA Jawad Rafique Malik, Member Infrastructure Malik Ahmed and senior officials of both ministries were also present in the meeting. During the meeting, various ongoing road infrastructure projects of NHA came under discussion.
The meeting also deliberated over proposed new road schemes to be included in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2019-20.
Minister for Planning said that infrastructure development is high on agenda of the Government and it is committed to timely completion of the ongoing projects.
He stated that only social economically feasible projects will be included in the next PSDP particularly in marginalized areas including South Punjab, Balochistan and merged tribal districts.
