Gunmen kill district police chief

KANDAHAR: Gunmen killed the police chief of Zabul’s Shahr-e-Safa district in neighbouring Kandahar province, officials said Saturday.

The gunmen opened fire on Gul Ahmad Grani, police chief of Shahr-e-Safa district, Zabul province, in Jadah area of Kandahar City at approximately 12:00 p.m. (local time), killing the district police chief and wounding his guard, said Aziz Ahmad Azizi, spokesman of Kandahar governor. He said the assailants made their escape good. Azizi was serving as the district police chief for several years.
