Haba Chaudhry face disqualification as hidden assets, trips surface

F.P. Report

RAWALPINDI: The Election Tribunal in Rawalpindi has disqualified Haba Chaudhry, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry and from contesting the upcoming provincial elections.

This decision comes after revelations of her undisclosed foreign trips and bank accounts emerged, casting a shadow over Fawad Chaudhry’s own candidacy as well.
The controversy stems from objections raised against Haba Chaudhry’s nomination papers, highlighting discrepancies in her asset declarations.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented evidence of her nine bank accounts and three foreign trips, none of which were mentioned in the required documents.
Faced with this damning evidence, the Election Tribunal upheld the objections, disqualifying Haba Chaudhry from contesting the Jhelum provincial constituency.
The decision also carries significant implications for Fawad Chaudhry, who faces similar accusations of concealing his wife’s financial dealings.

Following Haba Chaudhry’s disqualification, the Election Tribunal has withdrawn its approval order for Fawad Chaudhry’s nomination papers in the NA-60 and NA-61 constituencies. He has been summoned to appear before the court on January 9th to explain why he should not be disqualified for hiding these details.

With both his wife’s candidacy and his own nomination now in jeopardy, Fawad Chaudhry finds himself in a precarious political situation. The Election Tribunal’s decision has sent shockwaves through the PTI, raising questions about transparency and accountability within the party. As the January 9th hearing approaches, all eyes will be on Fawad Chaudhry as he attempts to defend his position and salvage his political future. (INP)
