Hakimi, US envoy discuss peace process, poll planning

KABUL: The minister of finance and the newly-appointed US ambassador on Monday discussed implementation of Brussels conference commitments and the Afghan National Peace and Development Framework.

At a meeting here, Eklil Hakimi and John R. Bass also conferred on the unprecedented increase in national revenue, Afghanistan’s economic situation and the budget.

The fight against corruption, trade balance, preparations for elections, the peace process, regional connectivity and distribution of electronic identity cards also figured at the meeting.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, Hakimi welcomed the new ambassador and praised the assistance provided by the US to the Afghan government.

The minister appreciated the work and activities of Michael McKinley, former US ambassador, during his mission in Afghanistan and wished the new one the best of luck.
