Heavy rains, flash floods kill 4, injures 25

JALALABAD (Khaama Press): Heavy rains and flash floods killed four people and injured 25 others in Nangarhar province on late Friday night, the provincial government in a statement said.
The provincial government officials in a telephone call to Khaama Press said that flash floods have caused serious financial and human losses to the local people.
According to Taliban officials, at least four children were killed and 25 others were injured, and some 300 residential houses were badly destroyed due to flash floods.
Furthermore, the flash floods have caused destruction to thousands of acres of agricultural land in Kaama, Lalpur, Goshta, Koz Kunar districts and some other areas of Nangarhar province.
Local residents have circulated pictures on social media showing the destruction of residential houses caused by Friday nights’ heavy rains and flooding in certain parts of the province.
Local residents have asked aid organizations to help the affected families during these difficult times.
In the meantime, heavy rains coinciding with strong winds damaged gardens and fruit trees in the northern Balkh, Samangan, Takhar, Kunduz and Baghlan provinces.
Afghanistan’s meteorological department predicts more rains and floods in some 18 provinces of the country in the coming days.
