Heavy rains wreak havoc in Buner, NDMA issues flood warning

F.P. Report

BUNER : Continuous heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in rivers and canals across Buner district, submerging low-lying areas, damaging crops, and forcing residents to evacuate to safer places.

Announcements were made from mosques urging people to move to higher ground, as floodwaters entered houses and Pir Baba Bazaar, creating an emergency situation.

Deputy Commissioner Kashif Qayyum confirmed that a high alert has been issued across Buner. Rescue teams have been dispatched to affected areas, and safe locations have been identified for displaced families.

“The water level in Batai and Qadr Nagar is dangerously high and flowing rapidly toward Pir Baba Khoor. The floodwater has reached behind the main market and road level. Evacuation efforts are underway,” he said.

He added that in case of severe emergency, temporary government accommodation will be provided for families who cannot return home.

Impact on infrastructure & agriculture
  • Floodwaters damaged communication roads, restricting access to several areas.
  • Standing crops and orchards were destroyed, raising fears of long-term economic loss for farmers.
  • Continuous rainfall for over five hours has intensified the situation, with residents describing widespread panic and fear.
