PESHAWAR: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Tuesday appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Peshawar in a case related to alleged misuse of KP government’s helicopters during the last tenure of PTI in the province.
Strict security arrangements were put in place around the NAB office in Peshawar before the arrival of prime minister in-waiting Imran Khan.
According to sources, NAB handed over questionnaire containing 15 queries to Khan pertaining to the case and his lawyers will look into it. The PTI legal team is required to answer the questionnaire in 15 days.
PTI Chief is currently under investigation for allegedly misusing helicopter belonging to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, causing a loss of Rs 2.1 million to the national treasury.
Initially on July 18, Imran Khan was summoned by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the case however; he sought more time due to his busy schedule in the wake of election-related activities. His counsel Babar Awan had assured the NAB that his client would turn up before the accountability watchdog following the polls.
Awan informed the court that Mr. Khan was currently busy in election campaigning, hence his appearance before the NAB was a bit difficult. He assured that the PTI chairman would appear before the accountability watchdog on priority right after the elections.
Awan had requested that if the NAB finds it possible, then August 7 should be fixed as the next date of case hearing.
Earlier in February this year, the previous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had clarified alleged misuse of its helicopters by PTI chief Imran Khan, stating the government-owned helicopters were never used for his personal or private use.
The then PTI-led KP government said Khan accompanying the ministers and advisers used those helicopters for the official tours.
It shared details of 39 official trips, as it was said, that helicopters were used for around 75 flying hours against fuel charges of approximately Rs 2.1 million in last four and half years.
Imran Khan participated in different important functions ranging from groundbreaking/inauguration of Billion Tree Tsunami project, the establishment of universities and other projects, the clarification said.
